The Final Reflection
Congratulations!!! You have made it through SEARCH class. The process of coming up with a marketable idea and bringing it to life requires a great deal of grit, energy, and creativity. It is now time to reflect on this experience so that you can unwind from an intense semester and so that you can gather your insights into one essay. Take the time to do a good on this. You will walk away with memories that fade in time, but by writing down your experience, you will be able to go back to this time in your life forever.
At the end of your essay, grade yourself and your team member. An average will be taken. The lowest grade you can give another student is 35 out of 50 points (a C- grade…only I can fail a student). I am totally ok with everyone giving everyone else a 50 out of 50. It’s the easiest math for me to calculate, afterall, but you need to be honest with the grade you assign to each other.

- Introduction
- Your name, grade, and age
- Describe the project you worked on.
- Business Model Canvas and Lean Launchpad
- What was it like coming up with your initial BMC as a team? How complete and accurate did you think it was at the time?
- How did your group decide what to change on the BMC as the customer interviews came in week after week?
- Interviewing Customers and Competitors
- What could you do to improve on your interviewing technique?
- How did you come up with the questions you were going to ask? Did you follow just one person’s lead or did you discuss as a group?
- In what ways would you do things differently in either the conducting of the interviews or the analysis of how to change the BMC once everyone in the group came back to school on Monday?
- TinkerCAD and 3D Modeling
- Name a minimum of three of your favorite TinkerCAD tricks/techniques.
- How is building a computer model different than drawing out a model? Meaning, how does it use different skills?
- Which would you now prefer to do---a hand drawn model and/or a TinkerCAD/AutoDesk model for your future projects? Why?
- The Minimal Viable Product
- Calculate the cost of your project idea. How much money did your group spend in total?
- Briefly describe your minimal viable product and the science behind it. How much time did it take to construct?
- What were some of the technical challenges you faced when building your product? What were you successful at and what were you unable to complete?
- What are your next steps in the design and functionality for your product? If it made it to the prototype stage, how do you see it advancing forward in the future? Is this an advancement that you will personally take on or not?
- Company Website
- What pages were included in your company website? Why were those pages created? Meaning, what purpose did they serve?
- What pages could be added to your website to enhance it? Name at least 2 extra pages. Why weren’t these pages included?
- How important is the company website to your project? Did it help you in any way to design your prototype, understand your BMC better, or give you any insight about your business whatsoever?
- The Regular Presentations
- What was it like interacting with your group members? How did you determine who said what?
- Would you have preferred to have given the presentations by yourself or in your group? Was three/four people per group a good number of members? Would you have preferred more or less people in your group overall?
- In what ways were the Go Soap Box comments helpful and not helpful? How did you try to provide helpful comments to others?
- Final Presentation in front of Judges/Showcase Event
- Critique your performance on the Final Presentation. Critique your team members on their performance.
- Identify the items that you would definitely improve upon or do the next time you do a presentation (both individually and within a group). For example, how could you have prepared better for the presentation?
- How did you feel before and after speaking in front of the judges? If you presented at Showcase, describe what that experience was like.
- Would you have preferred a Showcase Event that was more like Shark Tank? Would that have motivated you any more than an event where families could come to see everyone’s work?
- Last Thoughts
- What was the best moment in all of SEARCH class for you personally?
- What was the worst moment in all of SEARCH class for you personally?
- What kinds of insights have you gained about yourself? How about you going into business, joining a startup, and building a prototype? How about going into a science field as a job later on? Or merging both business and science in your future?
- What was SEARCH class really good at doing for you and what could be improved?
